Marvett Douglas, a single mother of two from Peckham District, Clarendon struggled after the waves of life hit her; however, she continues to fight to make a better life for her children and herself.
The JAS Marketing, Projects and Training department in collaboration with Ms. Hewitt from Food for the Poor were able to facilitate Mrs. Douglas in receiving her new house. On February 23, 2017, Mrs. Douglas invited members of her community & JAS to a house warming. It was evident from the high turnout of her community members that they were happy for her.
Marketing, Projects and Training Manager from JAS, Mrs. Janett Pullen stated” that she wished to express gratitude to Food for the Poor in particular Mrs. Hewitt, former RADA Parish Manager Mr.Carthy and his wife, members of the Peckham community especially Ms. Douglas’s neighbour “Aunty Carmen” for their great support towards Ms. Douglas and her children.
Mrs. Pullen further noted that the JAS is committed to assisting its members to optimise their full potential, and as such, it continues to seek creative and innovative ways to impact the social and economic structure of members. Under one such project “JAS Entrepreneurial support project” Ms. Douglas was able to access 100 Chickens, feed, seeds, planting materials and chemicals to establish three (3) square feet of land.
Mrs. Pullen also stated, “the society is confident that Mrs. Douglas will do well on this project.” In response, Ms. Douglas expressed her thanks to all present for the support she received and pledged that she will do everything in her power to ensure maximum success in her agricultural entrepreneurial venture to create an environment to foster the growth of her two children.
